You are given an identity as soon as you take a breath in this world, ‘Your Name!’ It becomes the most integral part you. You spend your entire life being recognized by that name. All your relations, your education, the career you choose, the pension you get, all of it, comes under the uniqueness of that name.
What happens to that name, when one fine day you turn into ashes?
Our whole lives are spent with immense attachment to this ‘tag’ which was bestowed on us, when we were born. Our actions, the choices we make, our thoughts, our emotions, all are directed towards the upkeep of this name.
If the remains of two formerly alive people are kept beside each other, would we still be able to recognize them by their name?
We were born from one and we will merge in one. Then why do we struggle for a lifetime, to maintain the disconnectedness from each other. Who is high in stature and wealth, and who isn’t? Who is lovable and beautiful, and who is not? Who is high in intellect and who is not? Who has more fame and success and who doesn’t? Why do we worship some individuals and despise a few others? Who is the king and who is the pauper? Who comes from a developed country and who doesn’t? Whose skin color is white and whose is black? Who is a citizen and who is the refugee? Who is a man and who is a woman?
Why do we not remember whatever heights our name achieves, it will finally turn to dust. Will this constant awareness not keep us grounded at all times? Will it not remove the bias towards others?
Won’t the struggle and the battle which we assume life is, be simplified?
